BYE SUMMER GALO Contest: Passion, Adaptability, and the Best Pop Under the Trees

Last February 21st, we had an unforgettable day at the University of Concepción. It was a day of great tricks, learning, and, above all, reaffirming our community's commitment to national fingerboarding.

A start with challenges (and a lot of learning)

We arrived early, full of energy, to set up our parks in the iconic UdeC Forum. However, we encountered a small logistical mishap: university security prevented us from setting up in that exact spot.

We took this as a management error on our part for not having processed the corresponding permits beforehand. But since nothing stops us in skateboarding, we decided to quickly move. We found a perfect spot under the shade of the trees within the same university, where the wind and sun accompanied us ideally throughout the day.

The Regional Scene in one place

Around 20 competitors gathered from different corners of the region: Talcahuano, Concepción, Chiguayante, Penco, and San Javier, among others. Seeing riders traveling just to share and compete shows that fingerboarding is more alive than ever in southern Chile.

We set up various professional Galo parks, creating a fluid environment where the skill level quickly rose.

Competition and Pro Level

We divided the day into two categories: Beginner and Advanced. The chosen modality was POSERO (freestyle), allowing each rider to showcase their creativity and flow in the spots.

The task of evaluating each line and technical trick fell to our judges, Ulises Bustos and Matías Soto, who had the difficult job of scoring the finalists given the high quality of the tricks performed.

Honor Roll:

• Beginner Category: The trophy went to [Winner's Name NN], who surprised with their consistency.

• Advanced Category: The undisputed champion of the day was Martín Espinoza, who dominated the spots with impeccable technique.

Best Trick and Community

In parallel, the Best Trick kept the "hype" sky-high. Edgardo was in charge of entertaining those present, motivating riders to throw their best tricks in specific spots to win applause and additional prizes.

What's next...

This event left us with great lessons. We are already working to ensure that our next gatherings, like the one at Plaza Bélgica, have all the necessary authorizations so that nothing interrupts the session.
