How to Change Your Fingerboard Wheels: A Step-by-Step Guide for a Perfect Ride

Just got new wheels for your setup but they're not spinning as you expected? Don't worry, it's a very common problem, especially when you're customizing your board for the first time. In this tutorial, we'll show you the correct process for installing your wheels and, most importantly, the professional trick to keep them from ever getting stuck.

1. Careful Disassembly

The first step is to remove the old wheels using your fingerboard wrench or tool. Expert tip: the nuts are extremely small and easy to lose. If they get stuck in the tool, leave them there or put them back on the axle while you remove the others to keep track of them.

2. Identify the Correct Bearing Position

Not all sides of the wheel are the same. If you look closely, you'll notice that the bearing is deeper on one side than the other:

• Inward: The side where the bearing is closer to the edge (this is the part that touches the truck).
• Outward: The side where the bearing looks more recessed (where the nut goes).

3. Installation: The Secret to Adjustment

When placing the new wheels, start screwing the nut on carefully. The key here is not to overtighten. Screw it on only until you feel slight resistance. If you tighten too much, the pressure will lock the bearing and the wheel won't spin.

4. The "Half-Turn Trick"

Once installed, test the spin. If you notice any wheel stopping quickly or being braked, apply this adjustment: loosen the nut half a turn backward. This frees up enough space for the bearing to work freely, leaving your setup ready to roll with maximum smoothness.
